Out of the many single character works by Inoue that are bold and overflowing with vitality, Jo from his later years, a work that can be described as the culmination of his experience, was used for this design. The cover interior is dual toned, with a dignified ink black and a sky blue color. It has "butterfly stopper" pen holders, which also function as a clasp to keep the cover shut.
