The head has been carved with a British heraldic crest: what I believe is a lapwing (aka peewhit, plover, and tyrwhitt). The lapwing is symbolic of strategy in heraldry at least as it outwits hunters by leading them away from its nest; a fact that proved popular amongst those lords dukes barons who fancied themselves as shrewd strategists naturally. The ring is crafted
